Volunteer Guidelines

Are you considering volunteering?  Wonderful!  While foster homes are our most urgent need, there are
many other ways that you can help if you are unable to foster.  We always need help with screening applications,
assisting with transports, fundraising, home visits and more. The below guidelines are specifically for foster parents.
Whatever ways you wish to volunteer, please submit a volunteer application (link at the bottom). Thank you!

Please read our volunteer guidelines before submitting an application. We look forward to hearing from you!
-You must be 21 years of age or older to volunteer

-Bare Paws Rescue covers only the Eastern half of the United States.  If you are located
outside of this area, we hope you will find another rescue with which to volunteer.

-Foster dogs must always be treated with kindness, compassion and patience.  Only
positive-reinforcement training shall be used.

~Dogs will not be kept crated for long periods of time.

-All of the pets in the home must be spayed/neutered (unless there is a medical condition
making it unadvisable per your vet) and up to date on vaccinations.  All dogs must be on
heartworm preventative.  Veterinarian reference will be checked.

-Dogs may never be tied out or left outside unattended.

-We cannot approve homes that utilize electronic fences.  The failure rate of e-fences
is rather high, and many dogs have been lost after crossing the invisible barrier and then
being unwilling to cross it again to return to the yard.  Electronic fences also do not protect
the dog from any stray dogs or wild animals that may be in the area.  We also cannot approve
homes with dog doors, as they enable dogs to be outside unattended.

-Dogs must be kept on-leash at all times when not in a securely fenced area.

~Bare Paws does not adopt to or have foster homes with children under 5 due to the small
size of most of our rescue dogs

-You agree that you release Bare Paws Rescue from all liability and/or future claims of any kind.
You are solely responsible for any liability related to the dog that you foster.  You hold Bare Paws
Rescue blameless in any and all future events related to the fostering of the dog.

-Please be aware that we are all volunteers with full times jobs and families and do rescue
work in our spare time.  The application process can take 2-3 weeks, so please be patient.

~References will be checked.  Please call your veterinarian to let them know we will be
calling, and give them permission to release information to us.   A home visit is also required.

-Bare Paws Rescue reserves the right to deny any application without explanation.

If you are willing and able to meet these requirements, we would love to hear from you!
